My Nano novel is finished! And a few days early even! Now I have a few days of rest… which in this case means getting back to doing the things I set aside on Monday and Tuesday to able to focus on writing.
The last two days of Nano were amazing. I manged to get into the flow and on Monday I wrote 7,907 words and on Tuesday 5,148 words, so way more than the daily target. I didn’t even have a clear picture of what I was going to write next, but still I did so well and I’m very proud of myself.
I have to say a lot of it was thanks to music. I know that people who jog/run/whatever like to listen to music at the same time because it apparently gives them a rhythm and makes it easier to keep to a certain pace. Funnily enough, also works with writing! I listened to songs with loud, fast drums, and my fingers sort of found the rhythm and went with it. It’s great to be able to type to music.
Now, as I said way back before Nano even started, this year I focused on quantity, not quality. There’s a lot in this year’s novel that would be cut out (burned, chopped, destroyed…) if it needed to be edited for publishing. As of right now I’m not making any plans to revise it. This was more of a writing exercise to me than anything else, so I never intended to make a base for a book to be published later.
For all of you who are still writing, good luck! There are still days left, you can do it! For those who have already finished, congratulations!
Is anyone planning on buying some winner merchandise from the Nano shop? If yes, what? I would’ve loved to get one of the posters but unfortunately to get it I’d have to donate over a hundred dollars, and I don’t have that kind of money to put on a poster (there was other stuff included but I just wanted the poster).
I’m going to end this post with the last lines of my story, as cliched as they might be:
“To new adventures,” Hatcher said, rising an imaginary glass.
Ferris laughed before taking his cup of coffee. He nodded his head to Hatcher, a smile on his face. “To new adventures.”
Congrats! 🙂
