Friday Snippet #93

I’ve always loved books and reading is a very dear hobby to me. As a child I pretended to be able to read long before I actually learned. To honor International Literacy Day (September 8th), let’s stop for a moment to think about people who don’t even have the chance to learn.

Reading is amazing for many different reasons and I can’t imagine life without it. However, since it was International Literacy Day yesterday, it’s important to remember not everyone can enjoy books and the power of the written word. For an inspiring story I recommend this interview posted on Daily (w)rite, and more information on illiteracy can be found for example on the Project Literacy website.

How old were you when you learned to read?

Continuing from that question, I came across a page listing the Most Popular Book the Year You Were Born. The years go from 1930 all the way up to 2016.

Have you read the book that was the biggest hit of your birth-year? If not, did it sound like something you’d enjoy?
